SUPPORT TO LOCAL COMMUNITIES: SUPPORT FOR NATURAL DISASTERS

The proximity of the Elazığ and Izmir plants to residential areas entails constant dialogue with local communities, which are particularly sensitive to the visual impacts and emissions of the plants. To manage these aspects, Çimentaş is adopting specific strategies of involvement and communication with the stakeholders interested in the topic.

On January 24, 2020, a 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck the province of Elazig, Turkey, killing over 30 and injuring more than 1,600. In the hours following the earthquake, Çimentaş donated 1 million Turkish lira to local authorities and opened the facility to provide housing for families forced to leave the damaged buildings.

The facility for the guests of the Elazig plant has opened its doors to the evacuees. In the following months, the leadership of Çimentaş in Elazığ coordinated closely with local authorities to provide support to the local community.

Also in the same year, on October 30, a 6.6 magnitude earthquake struck the province of İzmir, Turkey, causing over 90 victims and more than 900 injured. After the earthquake, Çimentaş donated 400,000 Turkish Liras to local authorities and provided financial support to employees whose homes had been damaged.
